TPA-2-PTFE

Chemically Resistant Temperature Sensor

chemically resistant temperature sensor with PTFE sheath TPA-2-PTFE

The TPA-2-PTFE is a chemically resistant temperature sensor with wetted parts in PTFE and PVDF, designed for immersion into chemical processing vessels such as acid etch tanks.

Chemically Resistant Temperature Sensor TPA-2-PTFE Introduction

The TPA-2-PTFE is an immersion temperature sensor designed for use in processes where concentrated chemicals may be used. With wetted parts in PTFE and a PVDF boss, the TPA-2-PTFE is designed to operate in concentrated chemicals while offering accurate temperature measurements. using a a 3 Wire PRT to BS 1904 standard.

The TPA-2-PTFE has an ABS mounting head, secured in place with a threaded lock nut to seal the internal connections against atmospheric conditions. The temperature assembly is manufactured in 316 Stainless Steel, secured into the ABS head using a PVDF boss and then covered in a PTFE sheath. This ensures that only the PTFE is in contact with the measured solution.

The PT100 or PT1000 Platinum Resistance Thermometer (PRT) is located in the tip of the stainless steel stem which is filled with our special thermal packing material.

The stem of the TPA-2-N is 6mm Ø and covered in our PTFE sheath for greater chemical compatibility, even in concentrated chemicals.

The PTFE covered sensor is straight, running from the PVDF boss to the tip of the sensor. The PTFE sheathed section is designed to be immersed into the measured liquid by suspending the TPA-2-PTFE assembly from a mounting bracket above a tank or open vessel. The TPA-2-N is not designed to be used with a Temperature Pocket.

The length of the sensor from the tip to the process connector is 150mm as standard. We can manufacture the TPA-2-PTFE with a longer insertion length, as required.

Before ordering we recommend checking the chemical compatibility of your media with PTFE.

We rate the TPA-2-N for measuring a temperature range of between -50.0°C to + 250.0°C.

Chemically Resistant Temperature Sensor TPA-2-PTFE with 3 Wire PRT PT100 / PT1000

Inside the ABS head of the TPA-2-N is a terminal block allowing the 3 Wire PRT to be wired into a temperature controller or other instrument which takes an input from a PT100 or PT1000.

As a 3 Wire device, the resistance in the cable that connects the insertion temperature sensor to the instrument is negated by measuring the cable resistance of the third wire. This ensures that the temperature is measured accurately and precisely.

For applications with long cable runs or if connecting directly to a  4-20mA controller, PLC or online Data Logger, then our TT100 4-20mA temperature transmitter is designed to be mounted inside the head of the insertion temperature sensor to give a 4-20mA output signal.

Duplex Chemically Resistant Temperature Sensor TPA-2-PTFE

The TPA-2-PTFE is available as a Duplex Temperature Sensor, meaning that a second PT100 or PT1000 is included within the PTFE coated temperature assembly.

This is often used to allow the TPA-2-PTFE to provide a temperature sensor to multiple instruments.  Often a single temperature signal is sent to a temperature controller and the second signal relayed to an instrument to provide temperature compensation.

Chemically Resistant Temperature Sensor TPA-2-PTFE Features & Benefits

The TPA-2-PTFE is specifically designed to measure the temperature within a process vessel, as accurately as possible while also remaining resistant to the affect of the chemicals.

Frequently used in acid-etch tanks with concentrated acids, the TPA-2-PTFE utilises either a 3 wire PT100 or 3 wire PT1000, to provide precision temperature measurements for control or monitoring purposes, whether in process, water treatment or effluent treatment applications.

The 3 Wire PRT is a precision device to BS 1904 standard and can be either a PT100 or PT1000, depending upon the connecting instrument.

The ABS head allows the electrical connection to be locked into place and combined with the connecting gland, prevents any ingress of fluids into the head of the temperature sensor. This could inhibit operation of insertion temperature sensor.

The TPA-2-N can be paired with any instrument that takes a 3 Wire PRT input, or one of our temperature controllers and is designed to offer the user a long operational life while providing accurate temperature measurements.
